The Story

Hesperus is a linocut print printed on Fabriano Rosaspina 280gsm paper in oil based yellow ochre, magenta, and metallic gold ink.

”Named after the greek god Hesperus, the personification of the evening star. One shines brightest, acting as guide. There are many symbolic meanings associated with the evening star such as hope, and new beginnings. Inspired by medieval iconography, alchemical symbols, and celestial events.”

This is a variable edition which means there are a few different colour combinations of this print. The gold is metallic so shines in ambient light.

Image size: 40.5 x 32 cm.
Paper size: 44.5 x 36 cm.
Variable edition of 50, numbered, signed and dated with 'E.V.' (meaning edition variable).

A lover of the natural world, Cally's prints are inspired by nature and folklore. She is based in London, but is constantly drawn to the beauty of nature and its place within the world. She began producing etchings and collagraphs at art college, and came to linocut printmaking much later. She really fell in love with the process of linocut; something about the carved line as a way to translate her sketches, and to explore pattern and texture.
